Summary
Assists the in the operation of an athletic departments which sponsors 26 NCAA Division III varsity sports. Primary duties center on managing the day-to-day operations of an NCAA Division III sports information office and all media relations functions. The director will be responsible for all aspects of traditional game day sports information operations which include marketing materials, producing pre- and post-game notes/interviews/recaps, arranging for action photography, logging game statistics and reporting results to the Presidents' Athletic Conference, affiliate conferences, NCAA, and various media outlets. The director will also be a member of the Communications and Marketing Team, helping to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the college's mission and enhance its reputation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and update an annual plan to promote 26 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic programs.
- Responsible for maintenance of the athletics web site, GoPresidents.com, with timely, accurate and creative content.
- Distribute press releases and news to local, regional and national media as well as subscribers of the W&J athletics e-mail listserve
- Coordinate the statistics crew and compiles event statistics during the event
- Hire and supervise sports information intern to help with the promotion of W&J student-athletes and coaches; Provide a hands-on learning experience for the intern within a NCAA Division III athletic organization
- Hire and supervise student and part-time workers as needed; train a team of students to fulfill content marketing goals and gameday administration
- Work as Office of Communications and Marketing team member on promotional efforts, alumni magazine stories, and on-campus committee assignments
- Maintain athletic department's live video streaming and live stat operations
- Responsible for supervising, writing, editing and designing of all athletic publications media guides, game programs.
- Coordinate interviews with coaches and players as requested by the media; Coordinate and conduct press conferences
- Maintain current and accurate statistical files and historical archives for each varsity sport
- Creating and editing video highlights and promotional packages
- Serve on W&J Athletic Hall of Fame Committee
- Manages and produces content for official athletic department social media accounts
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree minimum, master's degree preferred
- 1-3 years of minimum experience in a NCAA sports information office. 3-5 years of work in a related field preferred. Candidates must also be organized and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of NCAA Division III and Presidents' Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
- Desktop publishing skills as related to the production of publications required. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite InDesign CC, Photoshop Illustrator, and Stat Crew necessary. Strong overall communication skills, including excellent writing and editorial abilities.
