Using soft, malleable, porous materials, Micaela de Vivero creates large-scale sculptures and installations that consider political and social issues connected to feminist and post-colonialist concerns. As a woman of color and first-generation immigrant to the United States of America, de Vivero responds to these associations as well as the misunderstandings that unbalanced relationships between hegemonic and colonized cultures generate. Her contribution to the field is to create strong statements with apparent delicate materials to destabilize power relations.
