End Date, Time: Mar 12, 2022 4:59 am
Category:

Patrick Schmidt and Doug McGlumphy, studio art faculty at Washington & Jefferson College, work in different media to convey diverse artistic visions. Schmidt’s work explores pattern as metaphor, exploring cultural, social, and personal identities, whereas McGlumphy transforms the authentic material culture of rural America into critiques of modern American values, beliefs, and social structures. Schmidt teaches courses in painting, design, and drawing, and McGlumphy conducts classes in sculpture and design. This exhibition is the second in a series of four that highlight the faculty and students in the Department of Art and Art History at W&J College. Preceded by an exhibition by Visiting Assistant Professor, Carolina Alamilla, Schmidt and McGlumphy will be followed by two W&J Senior Shows, featuring work of graduating students from the class of 2022.

Patrick Schmidt lives in Pittsburgh, PA and received both his BFA and MFA from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI. Doug McGlumphy lives in Stone Creek, OH and received his BA from Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, PA and his MFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA.

The opening reception and artist talk will be on Friday, March 11, from 6-7:30 p.m., in the Olin Art Gallery. All Gallery events and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Hours during exhibits are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1-6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday afternoons by chance; and Sundays from 1-5 p.m.

This exhibition is co-sponsored in coordination with the Faculty Development Committee.
