Dr. Haya Abdellatif presented her longitudinal study, titled Forge Ahead! Evolving Perceptions, Beliefs, and Attitudes of Prospective Special Education Teachers Regarding Self and the Field, at the Teacher Education Division Conference in Pittsburgh. In collaboration with her Special Education peers from the University of Pittsburgh, she led a three-wave study to explore how pre-service teachers evolving perceptions, beliefs, and attitudes about the special education field influenced their decisions to enter and commit to the profession. The study aimed to inform recruitment and retention efforts for pre-service and early-career special education teachers. #SpecialEducation #TeacherEducation #PittsburghEducation #EducationResearch
Professor Ryan Bunting presented at the 2024 North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) conference in collaboration with Dr. James March from the Biology Department and students Maxwell Donaty and Kalea Umali. The title of their presentation was Community Confluence: College and Community Center Collaborate on Stream Studies. In their presentation, they reported on the success of a collaboration among college science students and youth at a community center summer camp during which students examined the critical connections among streams and society using art and science. This year, Professor Bunting also presented at the 2024 Critical Questions in Education Symposium. His presentation was titled Restorative Practice: Validation 101. During his presentation, he introduced professionals to the theory and implementation of Restorative Practice as an effective method of successfully working with youth through listening, open communication, empathy, and trust-building dialogue in equitable learning environments.” #CommunityEngagement #RestorativePractice #CriticalQuestionsInEducation #EnvironmentalEducation #ScienceAndArt
