Kristin Nelson serves as Professor and Chair of the Teacher Education Department.
She earned her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her M.A. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and her Ph.D. from the University of Utah-Salt Lake City. She focuses her academic energy on K-12 literacy topics and has published her research in journals including Reading Improvement, Reading Psychology, Reading & Writing Quarterly and Journal of Literacy Research. Kristin also has extensive experience in public schools serving as a high school English teacher, an English Language Learners teacher, and an elementary-level literacy coach. She believes that teaching is among the most rewarding and challenging career choices and that every child deserves knowledgeable and loving teachers. When she isn’t working on recruiting wonderful people into teaching, Kristin loves to travel, attend Broadway shows, play tennis, read, and spend time with her family and dog, Finley, a West Highland White Terrier.
