WASHINGTON (Dec. 14, 2017)— Ronald Bayline, Ph.D., Chair of the Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) Department of Biology, was named the president-elect for the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN), a national organization focused on neuroscience education and research at the undergraduate level.
In his new position, voted on by other members of the organization, Dr. Bayline will serve a three-year term that began in November 2017. For the first year, he’ll serve as president-elect, followed by a year-long term as president, and his final year in office as past-president.
Dr. Bayline has been involved with FUN since 2001 and served as a councilor for the organization from 2004-2006. He was elected treasurer in 2009, a four-year position in which he managed finances for the group during a time of growth.
In his new position, Dr. Bayline will have several responsibilities. At various times of his service, he will organize travel for undergraduates for an award competition held during the annual meeting in November, be the face of organization, lead FUN meetings, work with sponsors to secure funding for student travel and scholarships, and organize the poster session for students at the annual meeting.
“Leading FUN is a privilege because it is an organization of like-minded people focused on undergraduate research and education in neuroscience,” Dr. Bayline said. “It is a community of teacher scholars who can share ideas, successes and challenges, and it is specifically dedicated to educating and training the next generation of neuroscientists. I am very excited to give back to this organization that has given me so much in terms of ideas, resources, and support.”
FUN was formed in 1991 to give professionals in undergraduate neuroscience a place to come together and focus on their discipline in the field of biology.
